Why did my bid jump so high?
When you placed your bid after someone else has bid, if your proxy amount was high then their proxy amount, your current bid will be the next bid increment above their proxy.

If you still have a proxy amount above that amount it will not bid that high until someone else comes along and bids against you which is what the proxy bidding does. It bids for you until your proxy amount has been outbid, or the other bidder doesn't exceed your proxy and stops bidding.
